Son of outstanding New Zealand boxer Monty Betham. Product of Auckland's Papatoetoe club. A Junior Kiwi in 1996-97, he captained that side against Australia in his second year. Also captain of the Warriors' Under-19s in 1997, guiding them to their Super League grand final at ANZ Stadium (losing to Penrith). Strong player capable of providing cover at stand-off, halfback, loose forward or hooker. Efforts to establish himself as a first grade interchange player were thwarted in 1999 when a knee injury ended his season just two games into the premiership. Back now after knee reconstruction.
