Since the turn of the century both clubs have featured in the premiership decider a combined 13 times, with the Roosters claiming this season's minor premiership and Melbourne finishing second.
Cameron Smith says both clubs have seemingly dominated the post-season for a long time.
He says there was every likelihood that the two sides would meet and it's great for the game.

The NRL will also pay tribute to the 18 retiring players pre-game, with Warriors' veteran Simon Mannering included.
