The 35-year-old appears to have come to terms with Storm chief executive Dave Donaghy for a one-year one-million dollar deal.
Smith is the most capped player of all time with 383 NRL appearances, and will be the first player to hit the 400-mark if he remains injury free in the 2019 season.
The Storm are set to lose veterans Billy Slater and Ryan Hoffman to retirement in the comings weeks, so Smith's extension is timely.
